Keep Public Land Public: Brooklyn Edition
Local elections are coming up in New York, thanks for bearing with us as we run a second local action this week.
The Bedford Union Armory in Crown Heights sits on public land currently up for grabs in a hotly debated development proposal that would transfer this asset to BFC Partners, a development company that will profit off the inevitable displacement of Crown Heights residents. The Bedford Union Armory deal is of a piece with the Trump administration's efforts to take public institutions from the people and repurpose them to serve and enrich private interests.
What you can do1. CALL City Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo's office this week at 718-260-9191 and tell her to #killthedeal (anyone can do this, they don't have to be in district)
2. PROTEST in an event to support the coalition opposing the deal (text below from DSA email)
Monday, October 30 at 1pm, Spector Hall, 22 Reade Street
The fight to #killthedeal at the Bedford-Union Armory and build affordable housing for Crown Heights residents continues! This action is taking place at a crucial pre-election moment and we need everyone who is able to come and say NO! to luxury housing and gentrification in Crown Heights.
3. VOTE in the City Council election on Nov 7.
