New Yorkers - When You Vote Nov. 7th...

First of all, a reminder to vote in our state and municipal elections on Tuesday Nov. 7th. Here's one guide to key races in New York state, and the official NYC campaign finance board guide. New York city alone is holding elections for mayor, comptroller, public advocate, and all 51 seats on the city council.

Also on the ballot is Proposal 1 for a state constitutional convention, which must be proposed and voted on every 20 years. A constitutional convention, con-con for short, gathers delegates from every senatorial district, to propose amending the state's constitution. And while the New York state government could certainly use repair, the convention seems unlikely to do it, while also possibly making regressive rather than progressive amendments. The chosen delegates would fall along the same lines as the current gerrymandered shape of the senate, generating the same politics that currently take hold in Albany.

What's a better way to re-shape Albany? Vote out those hack state senators and assemblymen come 2018! Remember our email last week on the IDC? Here's a good place to start.

In the meantime, VOTE IN YOUR LOCAL ELECTION NOVEMBER 7TH!
