Ready for Recess!
We don't mean the recess where you run around the playground pretend-hiring than immediately firing your entourage in a chaotic round of pushing and shoving. No, we'll leave that fun to the others!
August recess is when members of Congress go back to their home turf. If you haven't yet visited the offices of your congressperson, this month is an excellent time: they should be out and about until September 4.
What you can do1. SCHEDULE A MEETING OR FIND A TOWN HALL
with your member of congress; the Women's March has drawn up a great guide with steps for how to properly set up an appointment.
WHY IT'S IMPORTANT
Your representatives are responding to grassroots efforts. Some Republican campaign promises—like the healthcare repeal—are based largely on politics and optics rather than a clear plan. Making enough noise that our representatives know we're paying attention to an issue can be powerful leverage, enough to block dangerous legislation. We'll talk more soon about action designed not just to resist the current administrations agenda, but also about creating laws you want to see take effect.
